Update LONG Overdue

Months 13-16

So it's been 3 months since I updated this thing and a lot has happened-vacation, walking, Halloween, among other things. I just never feel that great so thinking about updating the blog seems pretty daunting at times, but I know I'll regret it later.

Since I last blogged, Therese began walking! She did it on October 1st and hasn't slowed down since she figured it out.

I'm amazed by Therese's vocabulary at this point. She is adding new words almost daily AND repeating almost everything we say. And they're identifiable, because I'm not the only one who recognizes what she is saying. Here is the "new word" list from the past 3 months, words that she is using regularly:

Go, bottle, Bracco, up, outside, book, rock, cat, poopy, yes, fuzzy, shoe, boot, pretty, barrette, cracker, button, pizza, drink, keys, hello, uncle, auntie, red, truck, apple, birdy, bubble, eew, kiss, grapes, drink, airplane, balloon, stand up, sit down, thank you, bad dog, help you, There's Reesie! (when seeing herself in pictures), Meow, that's a cat!, I got it/you!, This is a ____ (truck, dog, cat, rock, etc.)

-She even recognizes different animals like cats, dogs, horses, and birds, knows what trucks are(like Daddy's fire truck) and can distinguish the color red.

-She has all 4 molars now (poor kid!) It's been a rough few months for sleep around here.

-She can open doors all by herself. I was taking a shower one day and while in there I heard knocking on the door. I thought Aaron was making her do it. Next thing I know, the door opens, the shower curtain gets pulled back and there is Reese smiling up at me trying to climb in the tub! Aaron was no where to be found and that's when I realized she could open doors.

-Loves the phone. She has called a Post Office in another state twice and left a voicemail on a random individual's phone. We now put all the phones up and out of reach! :0) While pretending to talk on the phone, she says "Hi Dadda!" or "Hi Papa!"

-Can get down from the bed by herself

-Waves her finger around while yelling at the dogs

-She makes the fish face

-Loves to sing to herself

13 Months

Therese adds new words to her vocabulary almost daily. I'm amazed at what a little sponge she is, repeating almost everything I say through out the day. She chatters almost non-stop between the the new words she's learning and repeating everything I say. There are still a few more words that she says frequently, but they haven't been distinguishable enough for me to figure out what they are. Here are the ones I know.

New words:

Don't Touch
Night Night
What is this/that?
What is it?
Who's that?

All done
Thank you
I love you (we have our own sign)

Some cute things she's doing:

We were swimming one afternoon and she decided to crawl out onto the pool deck. It was pretty hot and as she realized it, she said "ouch!" She now says "hot" when crawling on the pool deck.

Another time while in the pool I was pouring water on her back to keep her cool. She turned around, shivered and said "Ooh, stop it!"

She likes to hit us because we say ouch! So I've started saying gentle, and stroking her cheek. Now when I say gentle, she stops hitting and strokes my cheek saying "gentle."

While playing with her toy car, she makes vroom vroom noises.

When she gets caught with something she's not supposed to have, she quickly hands it over to me and says "Don't Touch!"

We had some friends over for dinner one night. She found my friend's purse on the floor, put her arm through the straps and crawled around carrying the purse.

She poses for pictures. Every time I pull my camera out, she smiles for me with her "cheese" face.

When she hears the word doggy, she goes "Woof woof!" She also tells them to sit when she sees them.

Gives us real kisses on the mouth now. It's the sweetest and one of my favorite things she does right now. She seems to enjoy doing it because after each kiss she gives, she laughs like she is so proud of herself.

Sings songs to herself while playing. Her little voice goes up and down in the cutest inflections while she babbles in words no one knows. I hope I can capture it on video.

She hasn't begin to walk yet. She balances at different times through out the day without holding on to anything, but she just hasn't braved that first step. I hope it's not too much longer!

Happy Birthday Therese!

Today is Therese's 1st birthday and what an amazing first year it's been! Therese has been developing rapidly so here's a little update.

We went to the doctor today for her wellness exam and she weighed 23 lbs. 13 oz. and measured 30.5 inches long. She's in the 90th percentile! Reese had 2 more teeth break through on Sunday and her doctor says she has molars working their way in as well.

Some cute things she is doing: eskimo kisses, squeezers, snuggles, sharing her food, working on feeding herself with a spoon, wiping her tushy on the changing table and This Little Piggy Went to the Market. I called her a piggy the other day because she eats all.the.time and she lifted her foot, grabbed her toe and said "Wah Wah," which is her way of saying "Weee weeee weee all the way home!" (Funny story with this: I finished nursing her the other morning and she was just laying on my lap. She grabbed my nipple, wiggled it up and down and said "Wah Wah." I laughed so hard! I guess This Little Piggy doesn't discriminate!!

Therese has really enjoyed learning lately. She is just soaking up everything we teach her and show her. She loves to play with her pop links and she has gotten really good at pulling them apart and putting them back together. Reese holds her toy phone, (and multiple other toys) up to her ear and talks on it like a phone. She has learned multiple body parts. When I ask her, she can point to my eyes, nose and bellybutton, and she is very close to learning mouth and ears. She also repeats words back to us very clearly, like "piggy."

New words:

Bye ("Bye Bye baby" to infant on the plane)
More: meh
Stop it (because I say this one a lot-I'll say "Stop it" and she responds "Stop it baby")

Reese learned the sign for more a while back, but stopped using it quickly after learning it. It has been revived! She now does it constantly when she wants more food which is SO much nicer than the whining that had been taking place.

I thought for sure she would be walking by her birthday, but this last week she has refused to walk! She will pull herself up, squat, sit down and crawl to another place, but if you hold her hands and try to get her to walk, she sits down and lets go. All she wanted to do the last few months was walk and now she gets upset if you make her try. As of a week ago, she transitioned from the G.I crawl to hands-and-knees crawl. She still reverts back to it from time to time, but the regular crawl is easier for pulling up on furniture and climbing stairs-two things that she loves to do.

Happy birthday sweet girl, you are loved and cherished!

Holy Matrimony

We spent the weekend in Allentown, Pennsylvania for my older brother James' wedding. He married his beautiful bride, Jennifer on Saturday July 10, 2010. It was a pretty jammed-packed weekend, but lots of fun! Here are some pictures from this momentous occasion:

Our return flight was not-so-much-fun! Due to the weather conditions, we sat a total of 11 hours on the plane! Three hours on the tarmac, another hour heading back to the gate (due to passenger bill of rights), a 45 minute break at the terminal (ahhhh), 2 hours back on the plane before take off (because of lightning), and finally our 5 hour flight. We were up for a total of 24 hours and poor little Therese screamed her head off for hours because she was tired and didn't know how to sleep on us. But we are finally home, resting up and recovering well.

Congrats to James and Jennifer!!

11 Months

So I got a little behind again, I'm posting this late.

Therese continues to bring us more joy than we ever thought possible and the growth that she makes on a daily basis is just incredible! She has added some new words to her vocabulary: ducky: duh-gee, What's that?: Wassat? (while pointing), This: dis (while pointing), Oh wow!(my favorite) and dance has now morphed from dah to dass.

She eats all sorts of new foods including ravioli, gyro meat with tzatziki sauce and peanut butter/jelly sandwiches.

She has become quite the little snuggle bug, preferring mom to anyone else. She constantly hugs me, cuddles and asks for me to hold her. She often will just sit in my lap, laying her head on my chest. I don't mind that I'm her favorite, :0), but I think she's beginning to hurt daddy's feelings.

Therese is close to walking(or so I think), but you can never tell with a child how close it really is. I can put her on her feet and let go and she'll stand there balancing by herself until she discovers I'm no longer there. Then she will sit herself down and ask for my hands to hold. She can do it, she just doesn't know she can. And I think Reese is a little timid about trying new things. She does great cruising all the furniture and pulling herself up though. She has found her way all around the living room and kitchen. We were hoping she would be walking by my brother's wedding, but seeing that it's next week and she is still asking for our assistance, I don't think it will happen. Oh well, in her own time.

Around 8 months, Therese began waking in the night to nurse since her top incisors were coming in. It took about 2 months for the teeth to finally come in and I figured she would go back to sleeping through the night after they did. Well, here we were at 11 months and she still was not back to sleeping through the night. I decided that she had developed a habit and she needed to learn to soothe herself back to sleep. I let her cry it out. Sunday night she screamed for 2 hours before finally falling back to sleep. Monday night she screamed for 1 hour and last night she slept all the way through! Hooray! I'm hoping it continues because listening to your child cry is one of the hardest things to do. I know it is best for her because she needs her sleep, but it is just hard. I'm hoping this success continues.

Therese also fell out of her crib a few weeks ago. We had already lowered it in anticipation of her learning to stand up but apparently that wasn't low enough. She had just begun standing up and decided to crawl out instead of taking her nap. We heard a thud and a scream and ran upstairs to see what happened. There she was about a foot or two from the crib, on the ground crying, with a rug burn down her face. Silly girl!

She also really enjoys watching SYTYCD with me! She dances to the music, watches the dancers intently and claps with excitement! It's so funny to see how much she enjoys it. ;0)

Hard to believe she is almost a year old! This time last year I was doing flips in the pool to turn her in hopes of escaping a c-section. And now, it's just a fading memory and my "baby" is turning into a little kid. Amazing!

what we've been UP to

Therese has figured out how to climb stairs (uh oh!) and stand up in her crib. I captured it all on camera so you can see the sequence.

...and success!!

10 Months and Vacation

Therese is now 10 months! She is so much fun and I continue to fall more in love with this girl everyday.

* Wearing 18-24 months clothes

* Eating almost everything we eat (except for all the no-no's like milk, etc.) She likes corn, black beans, tortillas, peaches, avocado, goldfish crackers, cheese, cottage cheese, cheerios, but her favorites are fruit leathers, berries and bananas. One of our favorite things is to watch her feed herself.

* New word: baby. I wasn't sure she knew what it meant until we were at the store and she saw a baby on a toilet paper package and exclaimed, "Baby!" She also says it when she gets upset, "Oh baby, baby."

*Other words: dat and what?
Dat: That
What?: What

* Belly crawling with the occasional hands-and-knees crawl

* Pushing up to sitting position from crawling

*Her favorite thing to do is walk, holding onto our hands. Any chance she can get, she will grab your hands, pull herself up and begin walking.

* She dances when you say the word "dance" or she hears music. Sometimes I catch her singing to herself while dancing.

*Loves the doggies more and more each day. I think it's her favorite word. She says it all the time and gets most excited about them.

We went on vacation this last week for our anniversary and took Therese with us. She got to try swimming for the first time. She was pretty indifferent to it-didn't hate it, didn't love it. But...she was enthralled by the other kids in the pool and the water fountains that spray water up from the ground in the kid area. She insisted that we walk through there, so I held her hands and she walked through the fountains. Here are some pictures of our time at the resort.

Happy Heineys

I have officially transitioned over to cloth diapers. I've been planning on using them for a while, but I just didn't have the motivation until now. After seeing how much money we've spent on disposables, I decided it was time. Here they are!
